How Quadriderm Rf Cream Works

Quadriderm RF Cream is a combination of three medicines: Beclometasone, Neomycin and Clotrimazole which treat skin infections.

Beclometasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy.

Neomycin is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria while Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi on the skin. Together, they treat your skin infection effectively.

Skin Problem

Quadriderm RF Cream is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat various fungal and bacterial skin infections. It treats skin inflammation due to allergies or irritants, eczema (inflamed, itchy, cracked and rough skin patches), psoriasis (skin cells multiply rapidly to form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales), ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch, insect bites and stings.

Bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria grow in the body and causes illness. Fungal infection occurs when a fungus invades and affects the tissue on the skin.

It is composed of three medicines: Betamethasone (steroid), Clotrimazole (antifungal) and Neomycin (antibiotic). Betamethasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy.

Betamethasone treats inflammation and itchiness caused by eczema and psoriasis. Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication that treats fungal infections, such as vaginal yeast infections, oral thrush, athlete’s foot, jock itch and ringworm.

It stops the growth of fungi by causing damage and leakage to the fungal cell membrane. On the other hand, Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used in treating bacterial and fungal infections of the skin.

It prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions and has broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

It is available in the form of topical (skin use) cream and ointment. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection.

If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina, rinse with cold water. Common side effects of Quadriderm RF Cream 5 gm include burning, irritation, itching and redness at the application site.

Active Infections

Let your doctor know if you are sensitive to Betamethasone, Clotrimazole, Neomycin or any other medications. Do not use topical Quadriderm RF Cream on open wounds, blisters and lesions. Quadriderm RF Cream  is not for oral, ophthalmic (eye) or intravaginal use.

Do not put dressing or bandage on the affected area since it increases the risk of side effects. Please check with your doctor before using Quadriderm RF Cream 5 gm, if you have pituitary gland diseases, cataract or glaucoma, diabetes, liver and kidney diseases.

Topical use of corticosteroids (Betamethasone) may sometimes cause systemic immunosuppression while treating infections. This condition may worsen the infections, hence Quadriderm RF Cream should be carefully used with patients with active infections.

Betamethasone in Quadriderm RF Cream may cause a rise in blood sugar levels in diabetic patients, therefore, a doctor’s supervision is necessary.

Do not use Quadriderm RF Cream  for treating diaper rash, since Betamethasone can cause adrenal suppression, Cushing’s syndrome (high cortisol levels) and intracranial hypertension (increased pressure in the brain) in infants due to systemic absorption.

Using steroids may increase the risk of low birth weight in the new-born baby. Neomycin may have harmful effects on the baby.

Hence, Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Quadriderm RF Cream. Sometimes, antibiotic medications can cause antibiotic resistance. In such cases, your doctor may prescribe other antibiotics you are not resistant to.
